Common loons are most commonly found in Canada, and the northern United States. They breed on bodies of water all over the northern reaches of North America, including parts of Greenland and Alaska. Loons are migratory birds, and spend their winters along the coasts of north america.
These loons nest on, or next to bodies of water. They make their nests on mounds of mud or vegetation. Their habitat is restricted by the climate because common loons will not nest on frozen bodies of water.
